This post is written as a letter to myself today, because I am going to need these words.
There are just some people who are negative about everything. Even on the best of days, they can find something to be negative about. I don’t think that I’m one of those people, but the problem is that these people have an aura around them and if you aren’t careful you can get drawn in. When that happens, usually one of two things occurs:
1. You become negative as well
2. You find your self in defensive mode – you somehow become responsible for their negative attitude and find yourself apologizing.
Neither of these options are good or healthy.
You may not be able to stop the negativity, it seems to be a lifestyle that some people have adopted for whatever reason, and it is not your job to change them, but you can be that light in the darkness.
Today I will have to deal with one of the negative people. I will have to fight hard to stop my first instinct which will be to try to make her feel better. I’m hoping that I will be able to listen, take a deep breath, and not get drawn in and try to fix everything in her universe that is broken.
I will adopt this perspective today:
“It’s snowing still,” said Eeyore gloomily.
“So it is.” “And freezing.”
“Is it?”
“Yes,” said Eeyore.
“However,” he said, brightening up a little, “we haven’t had an earthquake lately.”
Hoping for no earthquakes today!!!
Prayers for you and the person with whom you are meeting. Sometimes, as you know, when we have done all we can, we just have to move on. It isn’t easy but sometimes it is best for both persons.
So true Lynda – not as bad as I had anticipated, so far so good – keep the prayers coming!
It’s 3AM and I was just praying about this particular scenario myself. Please pray I don’t get swallowed up in the mire of depression trying to deal with family members. Since moving back here with everyone I am starting to wonder if maybe I didn’t make a huge mistake. I can’t fix situations or people, that’s Gods job. I just need to love them the way He wants me to. Praying for you too!
