Be forewarned: This is going to be a weird post….
Someone told me the other day that she had a friend who said God always spoke to her. When I hear that a little red flag pops up in my head because I’m weary of people who ‘hear’ God speaking to them. Do they hear voices? Do they use that to justify their decisions? Why does God speak clearly to them and so muffled to me?
She said that when her friend begins to pray about something, a Scripture reference pops into her head and when she looks it up, she always finds some sort of answer in it. Wow! I guess I shouldn’t knock it before I try it, but…. But then again, if it brings us to reading more of Scripture then it is certainly of God!
I think that God uses more creative ways to speak to me, probably because I’m always listening to too many other ‘voices’ at the same time, even if most of them are in my head! I do remember, however, a very clear ‘voice’ one evening.
I was returning home after a presentation that I didn’t think went so well. (First mistake – I, I, I, I, – always the self-critic). I was feeling pretty down (second mistake – wallowing in self-pity). I began to think about all the effort and energy that I had put into it and started to wonder if anyone really even heard what I was trying to say (third mistake – I don’t need to know the effects of my efforts, that would simply serve to feed my ego anyway).
I switched on the radio (because I needed to hear more voices???) and the Four Seasons Song, ‘Who Loves You’ came on. I promised you weird, so here goes:
I felt as though it was Jesus singing those words to me at that very moment.
The angst was lifted and I began to laugh and cry at the same time! That song remains so special to me. I think about it whenver I need to. Yes, God does talk to me!
Here are the words….what do you think?
Who Loves You
Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons
Who loves you pretty baby,
Who’s gonna help you through the night?
Who loves you pretty mama,
Who’s always there to make it right?
Who loves you pretty baby,
Who’s gonna help you through the night?
Who loves you pretty mama,
Who’s always there to make it right?
Who loves you,
Who loves you pretty baby?
Who’s gonna love you mama?
Who loves you,
Who loves you pretty baby?
When tears are in your eyes,
And you can’t find the way.
It’s hard to make believe,
You’re happy when you’re gray.
Baby when you’re feelin’ like,
You’ll never see the mornin’ light.
Come to me,
Baby, you’ll see.
Who loves you pretty baby,
Who’s gonna help you through the night?
Who loves you pretty mama,
Who’s always there to make it?
Who loves you,
Who loves you pretty baby?
Who’s gonna love you mama?
Who loves you,
Who loves you pretty baby?
And when you think,
The whole wide world has passed you by.
You keep on tryin’,
But you really don’t know why.
Baby when you need a smile,
To help the shadows drift away.
Come to me,
Baby, you’ll see.
Who loves you pretty baby,
Who’s gonna help you through the night?
Who loves you pretty mama,
Who’s always there to make it?
Who loves you,
Who’s gonna love you, love you?
Who’s gonna love you?
Who loves you,
Who’s gonna love you, love you?
Who’s gonna love you?
Baby,
Baby,
Doot-doo-doot.
Come to me,
Baby, you’ll see.
Who loves you pretty baby,
Who’s gonna help you through the night?
Who loves you pretty mama,
Who’s always there to make it?
Who loves you,
Who’s gonna love you, love you?
Who’s gonna love you?
Who loves you,
Who’s gonna love you, love you?
Who’s gonna love you?
Mikey likes it! If the inner voice brings fear or anxiety or anger it’s the ego. If it brings love or assurance or gratitude it is an angel. Or a message from God. What a good message you received!
