Today I bent the truth to be kind,

and I have no regret, for I am far surer of what is

kind than I am of what is true.  ~Robert Brault

I have a friend who is the kindest person I have ever known.  I have even heard someone else refer to him that way…I know, I am truly blessed!  It feels so good to be in his company.  He listens, he cares and he responds, always in kindness.

I want to be like this, I want to be a kind person.  Kindness is gentle, compassionate, understanding and loving.  Kindness doesn’t always have to ‘agree,’ but kindness must see deep into the other person, not just stop at  surface words or actions.  Kindness must look inside.  Kindness is the language of heart to heart.

People can be caught off guard when they expect a ‘reaction’ and instead they are given a dose of kindness.  Kindness is a diffuser, a healer, an invitation to love, both the other and yourself.

Kindness is soft but not malleable.  Kindness is strong but not a bully.  Kindness is a choice but not a mandate.

We need more kindness in our worlds.  We need more friends like I have…today I choose to respond in kindness.  And the kindness that I offer, merited or unmerited will in turn give me peace and allow me to crawl into my bed tonight with a smile and a grateful heart.
